This week was filled with opportunities to strengthen our school community. Thank you to all the families who joined us for Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday. We truly appreciate you taking the time to connect with our staff, visit classrooms, and learn more about Clarence Sansom. Your presence and partnership play an important role in supporting student success. Families who were unable to join us are always welcome to contact their child’s teachers to arrange a meeting or connect about their child’s learning.
Our Terry Fox Run on Thursday was also a great success! It was wonderful to see our students and staff come together to participate in this important Canadian tradition and honor Terry Fox’s legacy of courage, perseverance, and hope.
Honoring Truth and Reconciliation
At Clarence Sansom, students and staff participated in CBE learning activities throughout Truth and Reconciliation Week, September 21–25. As part of this learning, students took part in grade-level assemblies focused on deepening their understanding of Truth and Reconciliation. This learning continued in classrooms, where students had opportunities to reflect on what they had learned and consider their own role in advancing Truth and Reconciliation. Students wrote personal commitments identifying actions they can take to contribute to reconciliation in our school, community, and everyday lives. These experiences provided meaningful opportunities for our students to listen, learn, reflect, and recognize that each of us has a role to play in the ongoing work of Truth and Reconciliation.
September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and there will be no school on this day. In recognition of Orange Shirt Day, we encourage students and staff to wear orange on Monday, September 28. Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity to honour the children who attended residential schools, remember those who never returned home, and recognize the lasting impacts of the residential school system on Indigenous individuals, families, and communities. The orange shirt symbolizes the loss of culture, language, identity, family connections, and self-worth experienced by thousands of Indigenous children. By wearing orange, we affirm that Every Child Matters and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to learning about the truth of residential schools and our shared responsibility for reconciliation.
All CBE staff, students, families, friends, and neighbors are invited to continue learning and show support at the fifth annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day event taking place at the Confluence Historic Site on Wednesday, Sept. 30 from 9-10:30 a.m. This important community gathering is a collaboration between the City of Calgary, CBE, Calgary Catholic School District, Calgary Police Service, Calgary Fire Department, and The Confluence.

School Council and Parent Society
Our School Council and Parent Society Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Wednesday, October 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the school library. All parents and guardians are welcome and encouraged to attend. This is a great opportunity to connect with other families, learn more about our school, and have a voice in supporting our school community. If you are unable to attend the meeting in person, you can join the Clarence Sansom - School Council Meeting Online via Microsoft Teams. Partners in Learning: Respectful, Ongoing & Effective Communication
Families should always feel welcome to reach out to the school. Communication about your child begins in the classroom by reaching out to the classroom teachers. This is the optimal way to connect about your child's schooling.
While it is most optimal to first reach out to the classroom teacher, Mr. Steed, Principal, Ms. Nguyen and Dr. Amanwi, Assistant Principals, are available to work collaboratively alongside teachers to support students and their families.
