Request| Grade 9 PAT

Grade 9 students are completing the Part A English Language Arts Provincial Achievement Test (PAT) on Monday. Students should arrive to school on time and be ready for the exam in the following ways:

• Have a good breakfast prior to coming to school
• Bring a snack if needed
• Bring something to read for after the exam
• BRING NO DIGITAL DEVICES

Remind| Away for the Day

We are an “Away for the Day” school. This means that cell phones and electronic devices must be secured in backpacks/lockers, or better yet, left at home. Should you need to contact your child, please call the main office. For more information, check out our website.

 Invite| Clarence Sansom Talent Gala 

The Clarence Sansom Talent Gala takes place on May 23, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This is an opportunity for students and their families to see various student talents including acting, singing, dancing, and CTF projects. Tickets are free but are required for entry. Reserve your tickets here.

 Remind| Lockers

Please see important reminders about lockers below:

• Lockers are on loan from the school and school administration will have access to them at any time throughout the year.
• Locker combinations must be kept confidential (i.e. do not share a locker combination with others).
• The school is not responsible for lost or stolen items - keep valuables at home.
• Students are expected to keep their belongings in the locker issued to them. If they are accepting items from others, they are taking responsibility for those items (not always a good idea).

Request| Volunteers

We have many learning opportunities taking place the last month of school and we are in desperate need of volunteers. If you can, please register to be a volunteer and think about helping the school on the following days:

• June: 3 Outdoor Education Trip to Fish Creek Park (Grades 7, 8 and 9)
• June 17: Track Meet (Grade 7, 8, and 9)
• June 18 and 20: Grade 7 Trips to the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller
• June 25: Grade 9 Farewell Trip to Calaway Park

 Request| School Fees

The availability of rich learning opportunities that your child experiences this year depends on the collection of school fees. All applicable fees are available to view and pay online through MyCBE Account. Payments may also be made in cash, debit card, or credit card in person at our Main Office.

 Remind| Extended Absence Forms

We are receiving more requests for learning support from families wishing to travel. If choosing to travel during the school year when school is in session, please be aware of the following: 

• The Calgary Board of Education believes there is a strong positive correlation between attendance and effective education.
• The Education Act excuses students from attending school due to illness or other unavoidable cause, religious holidays, suspension/expulsion, or permission from the Board. An absence outside of these exemptions will be recorded as an unexcused absence. 
• Absences may affect a child’s academic progress at school.
• Schools are not mandated to provide schoolwork for extended absence. 
• It is parents/guardians’ responsibility to review and support their child’s learning. 
• The cumulative effect of multiple extended school absences could result in significant gaps in a child’s learning and achievement. 
• Absences may affect a child’s peer relationships at school. 
• Make sure to notify the school and the child’s teachers of leave of absence by filling in The Leave of Absence Form. This form can be found in the main office.
