Inform| Black History Month
February is Black History Month. Clarence Sansom School recognizes Black History Month and the contributions of Black Canadians in communities across the country.
This year, The City of Calgary’s theme is "Black Resistance." The theme explores how Black people have resisted historical and ongoing systemic oppression.
Additionally, the Government of Canada’s theme is: “Ours to tell”. This theme represents both an opportunity to engage in open dialogue and a commitment to learning more about the stories Black communities in Canada have to tell about their histories, successes, sacrifices and triumphs.

We are excited to announce that our school will be hosting a Valentine's Day “candy-a-gram” event! Students can spread some love and kindness by purchasing a “candy-a-gram”. “Crushing” it messages will be delivered to the recipient at the end of the day on Valentine's Day.
Update| Focus of Kindness and our Values Project
This month, we will focus on personal values that relate to the report card section “Personal Growth and Development”. Anyone who is consciously making an effort to improve themselves, they are participating in personal development. The importance of personal growth cannot be understated, as it allows individuals to become the best versions of themselves, giving them the skills and confidence necessary to navigate any situation.”
This month, students and staff are on the lookout for individuals exemplifying a value related to “Personal Growth and Development” and nominations can be made to be recognized!
Update| Athletics
The wrestling season has now concluded. Congratulations to all wrestlers who practiced and competed at tournaments and divisional meets. Once again, this small but mighty crew represented Scorpion Nation with pride. A special thank you to Coach Burke, Coach Crandell and Coach McGregor for working with student-athletes and this season. Without your time and dedication, these opportunities would not be possible.
Volleyball practices and games continue this week.
A big shout out to basketball athletes who took on teachers this past Friday at Staff vs. Student games. Although teachers took two wins away from students, they lost a heartbreaking game thanks to lack of cardio and old legs.
Inform| Staffing Updates
A new face in the office will welcome students beginning on Friday as Ms. Page is joining the Sansom team coming to us from James Fowler High School.
We would also like to take a moment to let grade 8 families know that Mr. Wasmann is leaving us this week and we are welcoming Mr. Pierre to the team.
