Thank you to our wonderful students and staff members for their positive engagement in Culture Week celebrations! Our goal to promote diversity, inclusion, kindness and mutual understanding was a roaring success. Thank you to our amazing Ms. Olson for overseeing this week of celebration and to student leaders who organized events.
As we approach June, there are many more reasons to celebrate. June is Indigenous Heritage month, which provides an opportunity to learn about the unique cultures, traditions and experiences of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people. As a school, we welcome Elder Henry on Wednesday who will speak to grade 7 students about Treaty 7. On June 7th, we welcome Indigenous dancers who will preform for our learning community, and on June 21st we recognize National Indigenous People’s Day with many learning activities.
June is also Pride Month internationally, a time to recognize the pursuit of equality and rights for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. The CBE and Clarence Sansom School reaffirms its commitment to creating safe and caring learning and work environments for 2SLGBTQ+ students and staff. As a school we will recognize this occasion by creating a display case that celebrates Pride Month and learn what it means to be an ally.
We acknowledge that each family and community have unique experiences with different recognitions and celebrations, and any commemorative activities in our schools may be perceived differently. Please note however, that classroom-based activities and lessons that promote diversity and inclusion are not subject to exemptions under the Education Act.
Last but not least, I would be remise if I did not provided a shout out to Ms. Michalenko and team of teachers for their work organizing, recognizing and celebrating student leaders and athletes at Friday’s first ever Night of The Scorpion!
Remind| School Fees
Please make sure to check your MyCBE account for any outstanding fees as we near the end of the school year.
Remind| Away for the Day Cell Phone Policy
We are an “Away for the Day” school. This means that cell phones and electronic devices must be secured in backpacks/lockers, or better yet, left at home. Should you need to contact your child, please call the main office. For more information, check out our website.
Request| Social Media
We would encourage all families to have open dialogue with their children about digital citizenship, safety on the internet, and general appropriate conduct online and offline. Respectfully, I ask you to double check your child’s apps, online presence and security settings. At the end of the day, if you own the device and pay for the device, you are responsible for the content and activities of the users of the device.
Remind| Coming Prepared to Learn
Students must come to school ready to participate and engage in their learning. For example, students need to arrive in courses such as Foods, PE and Construction with shoes that are safe and appropriate (Crocs are not allowed). If students are not prepared, they will have to complete alternate tasks in applicable learning spaces. If families are unable to provide appropriate shoes and/or supplies for their children, they are encouraged to let Connect teachers or Mr. Brown know so we can help.
