Scorpion Post| September 17, 2023

Thank you to our Scorpion families who came out to our annual Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday. There was a wonderful buzz in the building and students were very excited to show off our facility and their teachers. If you missed the formal presentation, it has been posted to our website here.

Upcoming weeks will be busy for our students. The House Cup is back this year and students have been sorted into their houses:

  • Sapphire (blue)
  • Topaz (orange)
  • Emerald (green)
  • Ruby (red)
  • Amethyst (purple)

House Cup points are awarded for participation in school events, kindness, effort and other opportunities. This week is spirit week – ask your child about this activities taking place.

Don’t forget there is no school for students on Friday as it is a Non-Instructional Day.

Reminder| Student Attendance

There has been a high volume of calls coming into the office inquiring about absent and late notifications that parents receive in the evening. We are working very hard to ensure students find their classes promptly, but some of our scorpions are struggling to get to their classes on time. If you receive a call in the evening about an absence, please look at your MYCBE parent account to see what class is in question. Once you know the class, have your student talk with that teacher about why they were marked late or absent. A few other things of note:

  • If a student is leaving school during school hours, a legal guardian must inform the office before they may leave.
  • If a student is leaving with anyone other than a listed guardian, the legal guardian must inform the office that the person is approved to pick up the child.
  • It is important to call and let the staff know your child is absent from school, so please make sure you call the Absence Line to let the office know. Accurate attendance is so important in case we deal with an emergency in the school. Contact 403-777-7700 and press 1. Clearly state the student’s name, grade and why they are absent.
  • It is vitally important that we have correct contact information in your MyCBE account. Please ensure updated information is shared with the school.

Inform| Terry Fox Run

On Thursday, September 18th, Clarence Sansom School is hosting our annual Terry Fox Day! We are excited to raise money this year through our Toonies for Terry initiative along with a Water Balloon activity. Students have the opportunity on Tuesday to purchase water balloons which they will throw at willing staff participants at lunch on Thursday. The homeroom who raises the most money will get the opportunity to throw water balloons at the admin team!

On Thursday, each grade will learn about Terry’s impacts, followed by a neighborhood run. This day will be a celebration of why your child runs for Terry.  Please ensure your student is dressed for the weather, wears sunscreen and has a water bottle. Students should come to school in comfortable clothes and wear their house colours!

We thank you for your ongoing support to support cancer research!

Invite| School Council

Parents and community members are important partners in public education. Through school council, our partners can make significant and meaningful contributions to the learning opportunities provided to Sansom students.

You are warmly invited to the first School Council meeting of the 2023-24 school year on Monday, September 18, at 6:30 PM, in-person, at Clarence Sansom School.
